Dropping Funnybook Science
Posted by Jorge | Filed under Grub Street, The Work
So last night was the final session of a six week seminar I’ve been teaching called “Writing for the Graphic Novel“. It’s been pretty incredible working over at the Grub Street writing center. Haven’t felt this hip or smart in quite some time and I credit that mostly to the way the staff and students welcomed me into the fold. I mean, this is a place where high minded authors of fiction, screenplays and poetry (… and than there’s ME) share what they know about their craft with burgeoning wordsmiths from all walks of life. The students in this class weren’t college sophomores, they were adults– folks with real jobs and kids heading off to college. And, for some reason, we all got together every Thursday night from 6-9PM and talked about the art of making comic books. I mean, we did it all– from initial brainstorms to finished scripts, from first contact with a perspective penciler to fully rendered pages.
To quote a friend, I’ve become “the Tony Robbins of comic book writing“. How wonderfully bizarre these last few weeks have been.
Thank you so much, James, Jennie, Laura, Jennifer and Lauren!
Can’t WAIT to get the Grub Street funnybook ball rolling again this January.
